The KWPN Select Sale offers buyers the opportunity to acquire a talented stallion that meets the high KWPN standards for conformation, movement, athletic ability and health. All stallions offered have undergone a complete veterinary sport examination and have been assessed both radiographically and clinically. The KWPN Select Sale focuses on stallions with prospects for both sport and breeding and is organised within the official KWPN selection process.

Selling a Stallion Through the KWPN Select Sale

For stallion owners, the KWPN Select Sale provides an excellent opportunity to present their stallion to a broad international audience. Selection takes place during the first round viewing.

  • Only stallions that are selected to continue to the second round viewing are eligible for participation in the KWPN Select Sale.
  • Registration takes place through the selection committee or via the KWPN.

Selection Procedure

The stallions are selected during their presentation at the first round viewing. Following this viewing, dressage stallions are additionally evaluated on the lunge by the selection committee. After selection, a photo and video day is organised at the KWPN Centre, where the dressage stallions are professionally presented on the lunge for inclusion in the sales collection.

Registration is possible through the selection committee, consisting of Teus van den Brink, Sjaak van der Lei, Daan Horn, Rom Vermunt and Nico Witte, or by e-mail via salespromotion@kwpn.nl, prior to or during the first round viewing.

Veterinary Requirements

To participate in the KWPN Select Sale, stallions must meet the following veterinary requirements. All examinations must be carried out by an approved inspection veterinarian:

  • A complete PROK examination, including neck and back radiographs; the radiographs must have been taken after 1 September of the year preceding the KWPN Select Sale.
  • A clinical examination, with a report in accordance with KNMvD standards, provided in both Dutch and English; the examination must be carried out after 1 December of the year preceding the KWPN Select Sale.
  • A roaring examination.
  • Genomic testing.
  • WFFS testing.

All veterinary information must be submitted in a timely manner through the designated channels.

Wildcards

In addition to the stallions selected during the first round viewing, the selection committee may award a limited number of wildcards during the KWPN Stallion Show. To be eligible for a wildcard, a stallion must:

  • Have been awarded a premium.
  • Have passed both the complete radiographic and clinical examinations.
  • Meet the applicable KSS requirements.
