VDL is a generously developed, youthful stallion with a clear rectangular frame
and a slightly downward body direction. He has an appealing head. The
neck is of good length with a light head–neck connection. The neck is
well-shaped, of good length, and sufficiently muscled. The shoulder is of
sufficient length and placement. The withers are sufficiently developed and of
good length. The back is of good length and sufficiently muscled. The loins are
long and sufficiently connected. The croup is sloping, of sufficient length and
musculature. The thigh is of sufficient length. The foreleg is correctly
aligned both from the side and from the front. The hind leg is long and
correctly aligned. The pasterns are of sufficient length and correctly set. The
foundation is sufficiently developed and of good quality. The feet are
well-developed, well-shaped, and of good quality. The heels are sufficiently developed.
Pedigree:
Premium stallion Norton VDL has a pedigree marked by numerous keur and
preferent stallions from the VDL Stud. Norton VDL is a son of the keur stallion
Baltic VDL, who himself competed at international Grand Prix level.
The dam of Norton VDL, the ster preferent prestatie mare Wyrusa H, is a
daughter of the keur stallion Corland, who was highly successful at the top
level of sport. Wyrusa H has produced several sport horses, including the
international 1.55m horse Cat Ninja (s.Zirocco Blue), the international 1.40m
horse Cyruso H (s.Atlantic), and Jiwyrusa H (s.Baltic VDL), who competes at
1.30m level. The keur preferent prestatie granddam Pyrusa H (s.Indoctro)
produced, in combination with Corland, three international sport horses, among
them two competing at 1.40m level and one at 1.35m level, as well as a 1.30m
horse by Vermont. This predicate-rich damline continues with the keur preferent
prestatie mare Irusa, a daughter of the preferent stallion Nimmerdor. She is
the dam of the KWPN stallion Wittinger VDL, who competed at international Grand
Prix level with Jur Vrieling. In addition, Irusa produced three sport horses by
Indoctro: Giruso H, competing at 1.40m level; Irus, at 1.35m; and Biruso H, at
1.30m level.
Performance Report:
Norton VDL is a quick-learning and rideable stallion
with a good attitude. He shows a strong willingness to work and is easy to
handle under saddle. The walk has sufficient scope and suppleness. The trot
shows good scope and is light-footed. In movement, the stallion maintains good
posture and balance. The canter is active, light-footed, with good scope and
balance, and the stallion changes leads with ease. Norton VDL jumps well upward
through the body, with good reflexes and sufficient use of the body. He demonstrates
good front-leg technique. Norton VDL appears careful and shows plenty of scope
and overview. As a showjumper, he has much talent and gives his rider a good
feeling.
