Dark Rousseau is a well-developed, appealing, and strongly built stallion. He has a sufficiently rectangular conformation. His head is expressive, with very striking eyes. The neck is of good length with a correct head-neck connection. The neck is well-shaped, well-muscled, and of good length. The shoulder is of good length and correctly positioned. The withers are sufficiently developed and of good length. The back is well-muscled and of good length. The loins are well-muscled and well connected. The croup is slightly sloping, of good length, and well-muscled. The thigh muscle is sufficiently long. The forelegs are correctly positioned when viewed from the side but slightly toeing in when viewed from the front. The hind legs are correctly positioned. The pasterns, both front and hind, are of good length and correctly set. The foundation is well-developed and of good quality. The hooves are well-developed, well-shaped, and of good quality. The heels are sufficiently developed but slightly uneven.

Dark Rousseau is the first KWPN-approved son of Dettori, the Desperado son who completed his performance test with high scores and is now successfully competing at Small Tour level. The dam of Dark Rousseau is the star and PROK mare Westside, a daughter of the preferent stallion Rousseau. Westside produced Hyatt, a Lord Leatherdale son competing at Small Tour level. Granddam Ratana V, a star preferent mare by Flemmingh, has produced multiple sport horses. The dam line of Dark Rousseau continues with Lantana V (by Hemmingway), a star, preferent, and performance mare. Lantana V is the dam of the KWPN-approved stallion Lantanas (by Sir Donnerhall) and the international Grand Prix horse Vitana V (by Donnerhall), who was successfully competed by Stephanie Peters. Additionally, in combination with Flemmingh and Jazz, Lantana V produced multiple sport horses and serves as the granddam of the KWPN-recognized stallion Cennin (by Vivaldi), who successfully competed at Grand Prix level under Madeleine Witte-Vrees.

Dark Rousseau is a sympathetic and cooperative stallion with a good to very good attitude. He has a strong willingness to work and is very easy to handle. His walk is very rhythmic, has good reach, and is active. His trot is light-footed, good to very powerful, with good rhythm and excellent hind leg engagement. His canter is very powerful, well-balanced, and has good reach. Dark Rousseau moves with great suppleness, excellent self-carriage, and strong balance. As a dressage horse, Dark Rousseau has great to very great potential and gives his rider a good to very good feeling.
