Performance report

Offspring report

Colonist showed a uniform collection of foals with respect to type and development. The foals are regal, with very good harness type and good rectangular-shaped conformation. Front leg action in the trot is good with good scope. The hind leg bends well and develops sufficient power but should generally step farther under the body. The foals carry the neck very well in the trot and use their bodies well.
Colonist is expected to pass on size and nobility to his offspring. Breeders should take note of his in-breeding percentage.

Lineage
As a three-year-old, Colonist won FSP Reserve Champion, an achievement which helped earn Wim Cazemier the 2010 Breeder of the Year title. Colonist's sire is the Manno son Vulcano, who was watch-listed following the evaluation of his foals. Mieke van Tergouw subsequently facilitated the sale of the stallion as an international driving horse. This spring, a number of Vulcano offspring excelled in various schooling shows. Colonist's dam Velony II (s.Patijn) is a product of the Tel family's renowned and successful dam-line, which has produced horses including the approved stallions Ganges (s.Renovo) and Patijn keur (s.Kolonel). Colonist's granddam Lony ster competed successfully in the sport, and her full sister Gelony keur sport achieved national acclaim by winning the Top Sport Mare title at the 1994 National Harness Horse Day event. Julony ster preferent, another full sister to Lony, produced the keur stallion Patijn. Colonist's great-granddam Velony keur preferent (s.Indiaan) is a full sister to both the dam of Ganges and Rector T, the open class horse shown by Stal van Tuyl and other drivers. Young successful horses out of this dam-line include Peter Stevens' Atillos D (s.Talos) and Lammert Tel's Bokito T (s.Manno).
Inspection Report
Colonist is an honest and reliable stallion. He has abundant desire to move but sometimes has difficulty containing this desire. This issue, in which the stallion often becomes strong in the hand, improved during the test. The hind leg is strong, and the front leg has reach and scope with good action. The front leg stride length and action improved during the test. The stallion shows abundant body use and elasticity in the trot with very elevated movement, and he carries his neck well. When he is asked for more front end action, he sometimes has difficulty coming back again with his front end. This issue improved over the course of the test. The hooves are of good quality. The walk has sufficient scope. Colonist has abundant to very abundant talent as a harness horse and gives his driver a good feeling.

Colonist is an honest and reliable stallion. He is easy on the ground and quiet in his stall.
