Conformation
Back Gammon is a well-developed stallion with more than sufficient jumper conformation. The head is long and sufficiently attractive. The poll is short. The neck has sufficient length and comes deep out of the chest. The topline lacks muscling. The wither has more than sufficient development and good length. The shoulder has sufficient length but is straight. The back has more than sufficient length but is slightly dropped. The loins are well connected with good muscling. The croup has more than sufficient length and is sloped. The front legs have good length, but the left front leg is back at the knee. The hind leg is correct but slightly long. The pasterns are long. The legs are more than sufficiently developed and of more than sufficient quality. The hooves show sufficient shape and development.
Lineage
Back Gammon's sire Montender (Contender x Burggraaf) placed well in World Cup competitions, team competitions, and grands prix. At the Athens Olympics, the stallion jumped two clear rounds under Marco Kutscher to help the German team capture the bronze medal. Montender also won the individual bronze medal. In 2005, he swept the European Championships both individually and as part of the German team. Back Gammon's dam Paloma is a keur mare by Heartbreaker. Her dam Kyra (s.Ekstein), who boasts the keur and preferent predicates, produced offspring including the KWPN stallion Vincenzo and a full sister to the international show jumper Ivar. Back Gammon's great-granddam Wilda (s.Legaat) is the dam of the KWPN stallion Caruso (s.Notaris). The dam-line also includes daughters by stallions such as Goudsmid and Cobbler's Thread xx.
Inspection Report
Back Gammon is an honest, reliable, and slightly sensitive stallion. He is very willing to work, has more than sufficient to good trainability, and a good mouth. The walk and trot have more than sufficient scope. The canter has more than sufficient to good scope and more than sufficient carriage. The stallion needs to bring his hind leg under his body more powerfully. He jumps with good reflexes and front leg form but needs to complete his jump better with his hind end. Back Gammon appears careful and demonstrates abundant scope. He shows abundant talent as a jumper and gives his rider a good feeling.
Stable Behavior
Back Gammon is an honest and reliable stallion. He is easy on the ground and quiet in his stall.
Veterinary Report
On 19 November 2009, swelling of the lower jaw was observed. The swelling ruptured on 22 November 2009, discharging bloody fluid. A bacteriological study indicated a mixed culture of bacteria. There was no indication of Strangles or another infectious nodular skin disease. On 30 November 2009, the fistula closed and swelling decreased significantly.
