Offspring report

Offspring (foals) in 2007:
A uniform collection of more than sufficiently developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation. Standing, the body direction is downhill. The head is attractive. The poll has good length. The neck has good length, shape and muscling, but several foals have a neck which comes out deep from the chest. The wither has more than sufficient length and development. The shoulder has good length and placement. The back has good length and muscling but is dropped. The loin has sufficient muscling. The croup has good length, placement, and muscling; in one foal, tail placement is high. The front leg has sufficient length but is toed-out in several foals. The hind leg is long and sometimes sickle-hocked. The legs are more than sufficiently developed and of more than sufficient quality. The walk has good scope. The trot is uphill, with a good front leg. The hind leg bends well and generally steps under the body more than sufficiently. The canter has more than sufficient scope and good balance. The foals use their body well in motion.
Short summary:
A uniform collection of more than sufficiently developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation. The trot is uphill. The foals use their body well in motion. The collection consisted of 20 foals selected by the KWPN and 3 foals selected by the stallion's registered party. Two of the KWPN-selected foals were evaluated standing only due to injury, and two were absent. The absent foals were inspected at their home location. One of the foals is consistent with the findings described in this report; the other foal is not as good as the findings described in this report. The foals selected by the stallion's registered party are consistent with the findings described in this report. The foals were evaluated on grass footing. The quality of the dams was moderate. Foals shown: 21 (+2) of 115 out of mares bred in 2006. The scoring protocol used in this report is as follows: moderate: 5; sufficient: 6; more than sufficient: 7; good: 8.
Breeding recommendation, 2007:
Lord Leatherdale can improve front end conformation, temperament, and front leg use. He is best bred to mares with a strong top-line and a correct hind leg. The breeding recommendation is based on the performance test and the foal inspection.
