Offspring report
Offspring 2003 (foals)
Reflex-M showed a uniform collection of sufficiently developed, tuig type foals. The poll has good shape. In a few cases the poll should have some more length. The neck has good length and direction. Repeatedly there is a ewe neck and in a few cases the neck comes from deep in the chest. The wither has sufficient length but should be more developed. The shoulder has good length and position. The back is generally hollow. The loins are well formed and well muscled. The croup is generally short and has more than sufficient position. The hamstring should be longer. The stance of the foreleg is correct but on the average it should be longer. Sometimes the hindleg is sickle hocked. The base has good quality; the hock should be more developed. The shape of the hooves is normal.
The walk is big and sufficiently powerful. The trot has sufficient scope and much suspension. The action of the foreleg is generally flat. The hindleg comes underneath moderately but should have more power. The foals use the neck well during movement. The foals do show front and rise during movement but they have difficulty accelerating.
There are 13 picked foals and 4 that are selected by the owner. One injured foal was seen in the stall but was not evaluated for movement. The selected foals were more convincing in movement.
The quality of the mares was good.
Shown: 17 foals out of 67 mares bred in 2002.
Watchlist 2003
Reflex-M was put on the watchlist on the basis of his offspring report (foals). After much discussion Reflex-M (s Larix) was accepted into the studbook. The committee showed this with his 7.5 for his overall picture of a harness horse. For years the guideline within the stallion committee has been that a stallion must score a minimum of 7.5 for the overall picture of a harness horse to be considered for approval. Ultimately they decided to approve him, the deciding factor being the use of the hindleg (8.5).
After evaluating the foals the committee concluded that the foals should have had more power from behind. In other words, Reflex-M was not able to pass on his strong point to his foals. It was also concluded that a number of the stallions lesser characteristics were recognizable in the foals.
