Eighteen-year-old Painted Black is a son of the preferent stallion Gribaldi out of Litchy, an elite Ferro daughter, bred by the Van de Valk-Anholt family of Ommel. As a six-year-old, Painted Black won the silver medal under Anky van Grunsven at the World Breeding Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden. Over time, Anky trained the stallion to the Grand Prix level. In 2009, the combination placed third in the World Cup Final in Las Vegas, after which the black stallion was sold to Morgan Barbançon Mestres. The duo was very successful in the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen. Chairman of the Stallion Selection Committee, Wim Ernes: “The sport breeding value is 163 with 89% reliability and therefore more than sufficient for the keur predicate. Ninety-seven Painted Black offspring have been registered in the studbook, half of which have earned the ster predicate. Painted Black's sire-line is also outstanding, with his approved sons Bon Bravour, Enzo Ferrari, and Ebony.” Painted Black was presented in the ring in hand, accompanied by his daughter Zoraida (ds.Jazz), who competes in the Big Tour under Femke Beljon.
