Olympic Champion Hickstead was born in 1991 with B. van Schijndel from Maren-Kessel. The KWPN-bred Hickstead was registered as a foal under the name Opel, and was renamed Hickstead following his approval with the NRPS- studbook as a three-year-old. Hickstead is a 1.64m/ 16.1 hands high bay stallion by the Nimmerdor-son Hamlet. This offspring from the Balia-line jumped successfully in the international sport himself. Hickstead’s dam is the ster, preferent mare Jomara, by Ekstein. Ekstein’s offspring are especially known for their willingness and fighting spirit. The apple does not fall far from the tree in Hickstead’s case. Granddam Fomara is a ster daughter of Ulft, followed by the ster, preferent mare Romara (s.Lector) and the preferent Amor-daughter Homara. After the stallion completed his basic schooling by Conny van Stokkum, Nol Boerekamps and Tim Franssen respectively, he was sold to Canadian show jumper Eric Lamaze. Originally bought as a speed horse, the bay stallion grew to be a Grand Prix- horse of absolute world class. The crown on his work undoubtedly is the Gold medal at the Hong Kong Olympic Games. Hickstead meets all the radiological standards set by the KWPN.
