Offspring report

Offspring 1994 (foals)
The stallion showed a uniform collection of strong and well-developed foals. They have long lines and are of more than sufficient riding type. The selected foals showed more refinement than the picked foals. The head is a little long, it has an ordinary expression. The length and muscling of the neck is good, but the connection to the wither leaves something to be desired. There is an indentation in front of the wither. In some cases the neck is a little deep. The wither is long and sufficiently developed. The long shoulder is often straight. The back is long in a good sense and it is well muscled. The muscling of the loins is good and they are sufficiently connected. The shape of the croup is usually good, the length is generally sufficient. The croup and gaskin are well muscled. The foreleg is generally correct. The stance of the hindleg varies: sometimes a little long with a small angle and sometimes a little straight. The base is sturdy and has sufficient quality.
The walk varies. Use of the hindleg is rather stiff. The foals trot easily but they should carry more. The bend in the hock leaves something to be desired and the foreleg remains flat. The picked foals showed little rise in the forehand, the selected foals rose sufficiently.
The mares were very good.
No veterinary remarks.
In short: uniform collection of well developed, more than sufficient riding type foals that move easily but could have more carrying power.
Shown: 28 foals out of 139 breedings.

Performance test report

Performance 1989 (tied for 16th after final)
He was not accepted into the studbook after the final.
Obedient, friendly, honest, good humor. He was green at the start of the test. He shows little bend in any of his joints and he tends to go a lot with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. After the rest period he is more willing to lengthen his neck. The walk is short and has a lateral tendency. The trot is short and has little elasticity. The canter is carried and has sufficient scope. He has a good take-off and nice bascule in jumping. The picture is affected negatively because his landing is only moderate. He works well in cross-country. He is more than sufficiently willing to work and the work is normal for him. He has moderate talent for dressage, rather much talent for jumping. He was in good condition upon arrival and remained that way. He ate normally and was calm in his stall.
On 04/27 his movement was irregular. This did not lessen after a few days of light work. After tests on 05/08 in Utrecht it appeared that he was lame on the left foreleg. This might have been caused by an injury to the sole of his foot. He also had a over-filled tendon sheath above the knee of the left foreleg. On 6/06 this was looked at further while he was under anesthetic. Because of complications due to the administration of anesthetic in the neck vein it was necessary for him to be admitted to a clinic until 6/24. Afterward he went home for rest. On 8/14 he was again tested. The tendon sheath was still slightly swollen but he was no longer lame. He resumed training that same day. He was tested for drugs. The result was negative. He finished the test on 9/15.
Supplement 1993
This stallion is known to the KWPN breeding program. This Westfalen stallion was selected for the performance test on the basis of his performance in 1989. He was lame several times. The University of Utrecht determined that he had problems with muscles and tendons. The prescribed rest did give some results but at the exam he still did not score well for the basic gaits. His jumping talent was clearly concluded. The stallion was not accepted at that time on the basis of his basic gaits.
Afterward he competed in sport. In Holland he started five times. In Germany he competed in the Bundeschampionat in 1992. He qualified for the final and then won it.
The stallion committee reviewed the stallion in December. The stallion seems to have outgrown his problems and seems to have powerful movements in-hand. This power especially showed on the hard surface. A clinical/veterinary examination had very positive results. The stallion was accepted on the grounds of his pedigree (the stallion Pavarotti and also the international jumper Argonaut, come from the same line), conformation, movement and jumping performance.
Because he completed all other requirements previously and was evaluated for character and stall behavior in Ermelo, he can enter the breeding program immediately.
There were offspring. The stallion committee was able to evaluate six (one yearling and five two-year olds): one from a German mare, the others out of mares belonging to the previous owner. The offspring that were shown were only moderately developed. The type is good but sometimes short-legged. The head should be more finished. The neck has good form and length. The shoulder is sufficiently long and developed. The back is sufficiently muscled the loins are a little tight. The croup could slope even more. The muscling leaves something to be desired. The base is well developed. The foreleg is correct. The hindleg is often a bit long.
The trot and canter were shown in free movement. The trot seemed to be big and strong with good use of the hindleg. The canter often misses suppleness; especially the use of the hindleg is stiff. Some offspring were presented in very moderate condition.
