Offspring report

Offspring 1990
The foals shown were presented in four groups (2 groups of picked and 2 groups of selected foals). There were clear differences between the first group and the others. On the whole the development is barely sufficient to sufficient. The type also varied from moderate to sufficient, while the foals from the two last groups were in good riding type. The first group of foals (picked) had long, coarse heads with little expression and often long ears. In the other three groups the heads were leaner, more correctly formed with more expression. On the whole the set of the neck could be better. Almost the entire first group was ewenecked and had poor muscling in the topline. The other groups had better necks. The picked foals had a sufficiently developed wither but it was rather short. The selected foals had a well-developed wither with good length. The first group had a mostly short, straight shoulder; that of the selected foals had sufficient length and placement. The loins are sometimes a bit hollow. The croup varies in form: sometimes good, sometimes poorly muscled, sometimes round and short with a poorly muscled gaskin. The foreleg could be more developed but is good in regards to stance and build. The hindleg is most often long with a small angle. The walk is usually good in scope but sometimes a little quick. The trot almost always has scope and elasticity. The hindleg of the picked foals should go under the body more and they should rise better in front. The selected foals had clearly better use of the hindleg and more rise in front. These groups also had foals that trotted excellently, foals whose movement went through their entire body. The report of one foal that was inspected at home, a picked foal, fit in with the rest of the picture. Veterinary reports mention three cases of a broken foot axis, while in two cases the hock should have been better finished.
In short: the foals varied in development and type with a neck set that was generally not ideal. The trot was characterized by scope and elasticity but missed good use of the hind leg in several cases.
Shown: 27 foals out of 130 breedings.
