The Calypso II son Contender has made a good name for himself as a Holsteiner in Oldenburg service. Oldenburg gave this powerful stallion the blood mares that he needs. Though he is a multi-faceted sire (just think of his son Contango), Contender"s emphasis is on jumping. Of course he has Calypso II and G Ramiro-Z in his pedigree, both international jumpers themselves and later multi-faceted and high level sires, to thank for those qualities. Mother Gofine is also at top level. This daughter out of Ramiro"s first foal crop and the stallion Chicago produced the Grand Prix horse Ulina (Susanne Behring). Gofine"s daughter Akelei III (s Landgraf I) is on the books as the dam of the international jumper stallions Cassandro I (Jerry Smit) and Cassandro II (Mylene Diedrichsmeier). Besides Contender she also produced the stallion Cornetto (s Caletto I), a breeding stallion and jumper in Denmark.
Well known offspring in sport by Contender are: Maria Callas (Ben Schröder), Copa d"Ora (Rob Ehrens/Yves Houtackers), Concerto I (Leslie Howard) and Charisma (Markus Fuchs). The KWPN has approved his sons Koriander, Cantos (Tilder"s), Contango and Mendel.
Contender is able to give his offspring a lot of size and substance. He fits best with mares with a lot of blood.
