Offspring 1982 (foals)
Topas shows foals with satisfying development, even though a few could have been more developed. The uniform collection was comprised of riding type foals that had a forward and closed build. The head is correct, hard and lean. The neck has good length and muscling. The topline is strong and closed. The croup, though a bit short in a few cases, is well muscled and the hamstring is nice and long. The foreleg has a tendency to be straight. The hindleg is built and positioned well. In general the legs are hard. The walk is generally good. The foals could move from the shoulder more in the trot and the use of the foreleg is a little flat. The hindlegs go under the body well. Movement in the trot is easy and elastic with good suspension. No veterinary remarks.

1986
Topas lost his approval on the basis of the studbook keuring results. It was noted that his offspring did not have a good walk or trot. The stance of the foreleg left much to be desired and there were also remarks on the hindleg. The wither was mostly flat and was remarked on repeatedly. There was only one first- and one-second premium opposed to four third premiums. The stallion committee was of the opinion that on the basis of this information it should be concluded that the stallion would not have any positive contributions to the breeding program, a conclusion that was made on the basis of his 3- and 4-year old offspring.
1991
Topas was again approved. The stallion previously serviced the breeding program but lost his approval on the basis of his offspring. When looking at sport results those offspring showed a very different picture. Especially the jumping index (where he had a 105, putting him in 4th place after Nimmerdor, Exkurs xx and H.Almé) gives a convincing picture of his ability to pass on jumping traits. This statistic, plus the fact that there is not a lot of Marco Polo blood left in the breeding program, decided the stallion committee to give this stallion another chance in the breeding program.

Performance Ermelo
He was well fed upon arrival. He lost weight during the test. From time to time he showed resistance during the test. If he liked the work he was good, but when he didn"t like it he acted up. He always looked for ways to escape and he often had to be made to mind. He has power. The walk is more than sufficient with sufficient regularity. The pushing phase in the trot is too long and it is difficult for him to carry. The canter is often hurried. Good moments in the canter alternate with less good ones. He is not adept at jumping. He has moderate technique of the forelegs. At the start of the test he had big problems with his landings, but this improved later on. He does not jump carefully. The cross-country varies a lot. It took a lot of trouble to get him in the water the first time. The technique over the cross-country jumps is moderate. His performance in harness is average. He looks at the work as normal and he has sufficient willingness to work. He has sufficient talent for dressage and cross-country and more than sufficient talent for jumping. During the first week he troublesome in his stall, he tried to leave every time his stall door was opened. Later his behavior was very good. During most of the test he ate more oats than pellets because otherwise he would have been too fat. At the start of the test his hocks and hind pasterns were filled. He had small hooves. The left fore was lower than the right fore. He had a cough on 3/05.
