Offspring report
Offspring 2004 (foals)
Tenerife-VDL showed more than sufficiently developed foals that stand in good rectangular model. The foals are riding type.
The head is shaped well and expressive. The poll has good length. The neck has sufficient length. Once in a while a ewe-neck was noted when a foal was stood up. The wither has sufficient length and is often moderately developed. The shoulder has sufficient position and length. The back has sufficient length, in one or two cases it was a bit hollow. The loins are long and well muscled. The croup has normal length and is sufficiently muscled. The hamstring is often a bit short. The stance of the foreleg is good, sometimes with a straight pastern. The stance of the hindleg is generally good, sometimes a little long and sickle-hocked. The hock is well developed. The base is well developed.
The walk is pure, has scope and suppleness. The foals move with much self-carriage and balance in the trot. The foreleg is used well. The use of the hindleg is more than sufficient. In a few cases the hindleg should go more underneath. The Tenerife-VDL foals jump easily into the canter and are supple.
In short: A uniform group of more than sufficiently developed riding type foals that are refined. When stood up, a few foals have a ewe-neck. Movement is more than sufficient with good use of the foreleg.
Shown were 12 picked foals and five that were selected by the owner. Three foals that were inspected at home fit in the above picture. The foals selected by the owner also fit in the above picture.
The footing was very slick as result of rain.
The quality of the mares was good on average.
Shown: 17 (+3) foals out of 73 mares that were bred in 2003.
Terminology used in scoring:
Moderate = five, sufficient = six, more than sufficient = seven, good = 8.
