Approved KWPN stallions may be awarded predicates as recognition of their exceptional contribution to breeding. A predicate reflects the additional quality a stallion passes on through his offspring. The stallion selection committee assesses whether a stallion qualifies for a predicate. Within the KWPN, the predicates keur and preferent can be awarded to approved stallions.

Keur

An approved stallion may receive the keur predicate when his first crop of offspring is at least seven years old. The keur predicate is awarded to stallions that clearly distinguish themselves positively within their breeding direction and year group based on the sport qualities of their offspring.

In addition to sport performance inheritance, conformation inheritance also plays an important role in the evaluation. Meeting the formal requirements does not automatically lead to the award of the keur predicate; the overall picture and the extent to which a stallion distinguishes himself within the population are decisive.

Preferent

The preferent predicate is the highest distinction a KWPN-approved stallion can obtain. To be eligible, a stallion must already have obtained the keur predicate. A preferent stallion clearly stands out within his breeding direction due to the quality of his offspring, particularly in terms of movement and conformation.

The offspring of the stallion must be at least eleven years old. In addition to the overall quality of the offspring, it is important that the stallion demonstrably and consistently passes on his qualities through the male line. The preferent predicate may also be awarded posthumously, if applicable.
