For geldings and non-approved stallions, it is possible to obtain various predicates. The same guidelines apply to both categories; where geldings are mentioned, non-approved stallions are also implied. Geldings and non-approved stallions are not entered into the studbook, as studbook entry is reserved for mares and approved stallions.

Important Indicators

By meeting established requirements in the areas of conformation, aptitude tests, health, and sport performance, a gelding or non-approved stallion can obtain a predicate. As the level of the predicate increases, the requirements become more demanding. Predicates therefore serve as important indicators of a horse’s quality and provide valuable information for breeding, particularly regarding the dam line from which the horse originates. In some cases, achieving a predicate with a gelding can have direct significance for the dam; for example, when a gelding obtains the ster predicate, he contributes to the preferent status of his dam.

Six Predicates

A total of six predicates can be awarded to geldings: ster, PROK, D-OC, EPTM, SPORT, and IBOP. The only difference between geldings and non-approved stallions is that non-approved stallions are not eligible to participate in the EPTM. When a gelding or non-approved stallion has obtained a predicate, this is recorded on the registration certificate and made visible in the KWPN database. The regulations (select the policy of the relevant breeding direction) provide a full explanation of all requirements for obtaining a predicate.
