Within the KWPN breeding objective, health is an important principle. The PROK predicate (Project Radiographic Examination KWPN) is awarded to mares that meet the studbook’s radiographic requirements. For the breeder, the PROK predicate indicates that the mare has good bone quality and meets the health standards set by the KWPN.
D-OC
To provide breeders with better insight into the hereditary predisposition for OC, the genomic breeding value for osteochondrosis has been developed. This value indicates the extent to which a horse has a genetic predisposition to pass on OC to its offspring, compared to the current KWPN population. This value is based on DNA research and therefore specifically reflects inheritance, not the clinical condition of the individual horse.
