Predicates are important indicators for breeders of the quality of their mare and provide insight into her conformation, talent, performance, and breeding value. The path to a predicate begins at the studbook inspection, where a mare can be presented for entry into the studbook. When she meets the requirements for studbook entry, she is officially registered.
By meeting established criteria in the areas of conformation, health, aptitude tests, and sport performance, a mare can obtain one or more predicates. Within the KWPN, this forms a step-by-step system, in which different predicates can complement each other. The elite predicate is considered the highest achievable conformation predicate for a mare.
Predicates
For mares, the following predicates may be awarded, among others: ster, keur, PROK, D-OC, IBOP, EPTM, elite, sport, preferent, and prestatie. When a mare has obtained a predicate, this is stated on the registration certificate and recorded in the KWPN database. The regulations (select the policy of the relevant breeding direction) contain a full explanation of all requirements for obtaining a predicate.
