There are two types of aptitude tests: the IBOP for all breeding directions and the EPTM for jumping, dressage, and Gelder horse breeding. The aptitude tests for KWPN mares are designed to provide insight into a horse’s natural ability for sport. By participating in an aptitude test, the breeder gains more information about the qualities of their mare. A jury evaluates the mare’s movement and natural aptitude for sport.
IBOP versus Sport
An aptitude test is particularly important for horses that do not compete in sport. For horses that do compete, sport results are available and clearly reflect how successful a horse is. This data is therefore carefully recorded and analysed. Not every owner has the opportunity or ambition to train their horse intensively. For the group of horses that do not compete, it is important to clearly assess their natural ability for sport, as the KWPN breeding objective is focused on breeding sport horses that perform at the highest level. The IBOP and EPTM have the same evaluation criteria. The difference lies in the preparation and the frequency of assessment. Both aptitude tests are also open to geldings.
Adjustment to Influenza Primary Vaccination for Participation in KWPN Events
Horses participating in KWPN events or staying at the KWPN Centre for more than seven days must be properly vaccinated against influenza. The regulations have recently been adjusted: for horses born on or after January 1, 2022, the influenza primary vaccination course must consist of three vaccinations.
