Stallions that show sufficient potential during the first inspection, as determined by the stallion selection committee, are invited for the second round viewing. This viewing is an important next step in the selection process towards the performance test.
Jumping and Dressage Stallions
The second round viewing of three-year-old jumping and dressage stallions takes place during the KWPN Stallion Show in ’s-Hertogenbosch. At this stage, conformation and natural ability are reassessed. In addition, pedigree and performance from the dam line are explicitly considered in the decision-making process.
Couloir
Jumping stallions are again evaluated in the arena, where they demonstrate both free movement and free jumping. Dressage stallions are also presented again in the arena during free movement, where posture, balance, use of the body, and quality of movement are assessed.
Selected Stallions
At the end of the second round viewing, the most complete stallions are awarded premiums. With this premium, stallions that excel in conformation, talent, and pedigree are highlighted. Based on the overall picture, it is then determined which stallions are selected for the performance test, the final stage towards possible approval.
Gelder Horse Stallions
Gelder horse stallions that are referred after the first round viewing participate in the second round viewing during the KWPN Stallion Show. Three-year-old Gelder horse stallions are assessed on their free movement.
Older Gelder Horse Stallions
For Gelder horse stallions aged four to seven, the second round viewing takes place during the first inspection of riding horse stallions at the KWPN Centre in Ermelo. These stallions are presented under saddle or in harness, depending on their age and intended use. After the second round viewing, it is determined whether a Gelder horse stallion is selected for the performance test.
Harness Horse Stallions
For harness horse stallions, the second round viewing takes place during the KWPN Stallion Show in ’s-Hertogenbosch. The harness horse stallions are again presented in hand and assessed in walk and trot. Based on this presentation, the stallion selection committee determines whether a stallion is referred to the performance test, the final stage towards possible approval.
