In exceptional cases, stallions that have proven themselves at the highest level may be approved for KWPN breeding. This concerns stallions that have been successful at a minimum of Prix St. Georges/Intermediaire I level (dressage) or CSI4* 1.50m level (jumping), stallions with multiple offspring performing internationally at Grand Prix level (dressage) or at least CSI4* 1.50m level (jumping), or stallions that have delivered exceptional performances at the World Championships for six- or seven-year-old horses. The exact requirements can be found in the regulations of the respective breeding direction.
In addition, stallions that have achieved a top 10 position in the WBFSH Sire Ranking for jumping or dressage are approved as KWPN-approved stallions in the relevant discipline without additional requirements.
Reserved for Stallions of Exceptional Quality
Individual approval takes place on the advice of the stallion selection committee. These stallions are assessed on conformation. If results of radiographic examination and/or genomic breeding values for osteochondrosis are available, these are published.
Individually approved stallions are granted the same status within the KWPN as approved stallions. Foals from these stallions are registered in the foal book, and mares can be entered into the studbook from the age of three without additional requirements. Individual approval is reserved for stallions of exceptional quality.
