Horses participating in KWPN events, such as inspections, viewings, aptitude tests, and performance tests, or horses staying at the KWPN Centre for more than seven days, must be correctly vaccinated against influenza and rhinopneumonia. Horses that are not or incompletely vaccinated will be excluded from participation in KWPN events.

Veterinary Regulations

All vaccinations must be administered at least seven days prior to the relevant KWPN event. These rules are laid down in the KWPN Veterinary Regulations.

Rhinopneumonia

A rhinopneumonia vaccination consists of a primary course and booster vaccinations. The primary course consists of two vaccinations, with an interval of at least four weeks and a maximum of ten weeks between the first and second vaccination. Booster vaccinations must be administered every six months following the previous vaccination.

Influenza – Primary Vaccination and Boosters

The schedule for influenza primary vaccination depends on the horse’s year of birth and the moment the primary vaccination was started. Annual booster vaccinations must be maintained correctly and without interruption. Boosters may be administered up to and including the same date as in the previous year.

Primary Vaccination Started on or After April 1, 2024

For all horses, the influenza primary vaccination consists of three vaccinations:

  • The second vaccination is administered at least 21 days and no more than 60 days after the first
  • The third vaccination (first booster) is administered at least 120 days and no more than 6 months and 21 days after the second vaccination

Horses Born Before January 1, 2022

For horses born before January 1, 2022, whose primary vaccination was correctly completed with two vaccinations, nothing changes, provided that annual boosters have been maintained on time. If an older horse requires a new primary vaccination, for example due to a break in the vaccination schedule, it must now consist of three vaccinations according to current regulations.

Horses Born in 2022 or 2023

For horses born in 2022 or 2023, a transitional arrangement applies. They may receive their second primary vaccination between 21 and 92 days after the first vaccination, in accordance with the applicable KNHS regulations.
