It is not permitted to participate in mare/foal inspections or other KWPN events and competitions with horses whose tactile hairs around the mouth and eyes have been completely removed and/or whose inner ear hairs have been clipped. This will be monitored by stewards present at the events. Excessively protruding hairs may be trimmed. For adult horses, it is permitted to clip the legs and trim or clip the tail. At various studbook inspections and Central Inspections, stewards are present on a random basis to monitor compliance.
Clipping of Foals
It is also not permitted to participate in foal inspections and KWPN foal auctions with clipped foals. Clipping foals does not increase the chance of a better evaluation but does pose a health risk. The natural coat change process may be disrupted, and clipping can cause small wounds that may become infected. If a steward determines that a foal has been clipped, it will be excluded from participation.
