To participate in an inspection and to qualify for predicates, a horse must meet various criteria. These criteria depend, among other things, on how the horse is registered, for example in the foal book, Register A, or Register B. Mares that are not registered with the KWPN can also be presented for inspection and, if they meet the applicable requirements, may obtain predicates. The conditions differ per predicate and per breeding direction and relate, among other things, to conformation, movement, aptitude tests, health, and sport performance.
Awarding
Within the KWPN, predicates are awarded in different ways. Some predicates are registered automatically, while others can be applied for by the owner once the requirements have been met.
Automatically Registered
The preferent predicate is automatically awarded when the requirements are met. For dressage and jumping horses, the sport predicate is also automatically registered, provided the required sport performance has been achieved in the Netherlands and has been correctly recorded. For the other breeding directions, the sport predicate can be applied for once the conditions are met. The performance predicate can be applied for by the owner for all breeding directions.
KWPN Database
When a horse obtains a predicate during an inspection or aptitude test, this can be processed immediately. In that case, the registration certificate is taken on site, and the KWPN takes care of the administrative registration. Awarded predicates are always recorded and visible in the KWPN database for the respective horse.
Online Application
If a horse earns a predicate at a later stage, or when it is established that the requirements have been met, the predicate can still be applied for online. After submission, the signed registration form, together with the registration certificate, must be sent by post for further processing. Once approved, the predicate is registered. If desired, predicates of a mare can also be stated on the registration certificates of her offspring, provided these are registered under the same owner. The KWPN advises sending registration certificates carefully and preferably by registered mail.
Below, the criteria for the predicates are outlined.
