Healthy horses are the foundation of a strong breeding programme. The KWPN strives to breed sport horses that are not only capable of performing at the highest level, but are also able to do so sustainably. An important aspect of this is the quality of the musculoskeletal system: strong bones and joints that can withstand athletic demands. Maintaining proper selection for health traits is essential to preserving the distinctive position of the studbook. For this reason, approved stallions themselves must also meet strict health requirements, enabling breeders to make better-informed decisions and breed more durable horses.
Insight into Radiographic Quality
The PROK predicate helps breeders and owners gain insight into the radiographic quality of horses. PROK stands for the KWPN Radiographic Examination Project. The predicate is awarded to horses that meet the KWPN's radiographic requirements. The revision of the PROK criteria has ensured that the KWPN standard reflects current veterinary standards and is aligned with the modern sport horse population. All requirements are described in detail in the Veterinary Regulations.
PROK Veterinarians
To ensure quality and consistency, the KWPN works with a nationwide network of approved PROK veterinarians. They possess the appropriate equipment, knowledge and experience to produce radiographs in accordance with KWPN guidelines. Owners may contact one of these selected veterinarians directly. After the radiographs have been evaluated by an independent KWPN assessment committee, the PROK predicate may be awarded if the horse meets the required standards. The EKDP database provides an overview of all approved veterinary practices.
