The DNA test is carried out using a hair sample. In foals, the KWPN passport inspector takes the sample during identification (sketching) and microchipping. For many older horses, a hair sample is already stored in the KWPN archive. If this is not the case, the KWPN will contact you. The results are usually available within 4 to 6 weeks. You will receive a notification as soon as the result is available in “My KWPN,” where you can download and save it. If a horse meets the requirements for a higher predicate thanks to the D-OC predicate (for example keur → elite), this is processed automatically.

Advantages of D-OC

The DNA test for the genomic breeding value can already be carried out at foal age and focuses on heredity: to what extent does the horse have the genetic predisposition to pass on OC to its offspring? The result of the DNA test, the genomic breeding value (GEBV OC), is up to three times more reliable for breeding purposes than the PROK examination for OC traits. This is because the DNA test is performed directly on the genetic material and therefore provides more insight into a horse’s breeding qualities (inheritance). An important difference compared to PROK is that breeders can determine much earlier how a horse scores in terms of OC inheritance.
