Lusitanos and PREs are known for their natural ability for collection and their talent for movements such as passage and piaffe. By combining these breeds with KWPN horses, these qualities are utilized within dressage-oriented breeding.

As part of broadening the genetic base within dressage horse breeding, it is possible to register offspring of KWPN-approved stallions out of purebred Lusitano or PRE mares. These foals are entered into Register A and receive a KWPN registration. If they meet the criteria, they can later be entered into the studbook and earn predicates.

It is also possible to register foals born from KWPN mares in combination with purebred Lusitano or PRE stallions. These offspring are entered into Register B and also receive a KWPN registration certificate and passport. Horses in Register B are excluded from participation in regular conformation inspections but still have various opportunities. They can compete in young horse competitions, such as the Pavo Cup, and are therefore also eligible for selection for the World Championships for young dressage or showjumping horses. Participation in performance tests is also possible. Register B horses can achieve the sport predicate and, based on their offspring, the performance predicate. Register B stallions may, after approval by the General Board, participate in the stallion selection process to qualify for KWPN approval.
