A riding horse foal is given a Register A registration when:
- the dam is recorded in the foal book, the studbook, has a Register A paper, or is registered with a recognized foreign studbook, and
- the sire:
- is approved by a recognized studbook but has not yet met the additional requirements, or
- is listed in the top 250 of the WBFSH Sport Ranking, or
- is ranked between 11th and 100th place in the WBFSH Sire Ranking.
If the sire later meets the additional requirements, his offspring are automatically transferred from Register A to the foal book. For certain predicates, additional veterinary requirements apply at a later age, unless the sire had already met those requirements.
Register A horses and inspections
Since 2018, Register A horses can complete the full inspection trajectory, including the Central Inspection and the National Mare Inspection. They can be entered into the studbook and achieve the ster predicate. For the keur predicate, in addition to a performance test (IBOP, EPTM, or sport), they must meet the additional veterinary requirements (PROK or D-OC). The additional requirement for laryngeal hemiplegia (“roaring”) in mares has been abolished.
